Don’t send me docs.

Here’s my reply to yet another recruitment company, asking me to be a referee.  They attached a MS Word doc to an email, and expected me to take 15 minutes out of my day, when a simple on-line form would have taken me 2 minutes.  Why do recruitment people, and it’s only thems, do this?

Hi,

I really don’t mean to be unhelpful, but someone should stand up at your international recruiters conferences and point out what a pain in the butt it is to receive a word doc that I have to fill in in order to help my old mate Matt get a good new job.   He’s well worth employing, and one of the first things someone should get him to do is design a simple online form that we referees could fill in, rather than going to all the hassle of downloading, opening, editing, saving, re-attaching and sending a document.  If you want a good response, make it easy and quick.

I won’t do it, sorry, but it had better not affect his chances, because he will be one of the best workers whoever is employing him will ever see.
